Health and safety

REVIVE is a wellness facility. It is not a medical service. Nothing on this website, and nothing said to you by our team, diagnoses, treats, cures or prevents any medical condition, and none of it is a substitute for advice from a qualified clinician.

Never use the sauna or the plunge after drinking alcohol. Alcohol combined with heat is the single largest cause of sauna-related harm. We recommend using the plunge with someone else present. If you book alone, the main area of the suite is CCTV-monitored for your safety and staff are on site during opening hours.

Speak to your GP before using heat or cold therapy if you are pregnant, have a heart condition or an irregular heart rhythm, have low or high blood pressure, have had a stroke, have Raynaud's, or take any medication affecting circulation, blood pressure or temperature regulation. If you feel faint, dizzy or unwell at any point, get out.

About the figures on this site

The health figures quoted on our website come from published, peer-reviewed research into sauna bathing and cold water immersion. Most of the sauna research is observational — it follows large groups of people over many years and reports the associations it finds. Associations of this kind show that two things occur together in a population; they do not by themselves prove that one causes the other. Individual results vary, and no result is guaranteed.

All three studies measured traditional Finnish dry sauna at approximately 80°C, and the associations were strongest at four to seven sessions per week.

Cold water immersion and muscle soreness

Every study showing blunted adaptation applied cold water within roughly fifteen minutes of the training session, which is why we suggest leaving four to six hours after heavy resistance training.
